The Therigatha

Then I took a lamp

and went into my cell,

checked the bed,

and sat down on it.

I took a needle

and pushed the wick down.

When the lamp went out

my mind was freed.

When they heard Patacara's teaching

they washed their feet

and sat down beside her.

Intent on peace of mind,

they practiced the Buddha's teaching.

In the first watch of the night,

they remembered they had been born before.
